A Scarcity of Instructional Standards
Training standards for firearms instructor training are virtually non-existent. On the civilian side, the NRA Instructor Certification and NRA Basic Curriculums provide an outline for training standards. There are many other firearms training organizations who have developed sufficient standards of instructor competency but they are relatively few and far between. Many local instructors unfortunately take the “short” method and just teach for the sake of teaching and collecting funds with disregard to what we, at TOTAL Firearm Techniques believe; that our main objective is to ensure our customers are provided with the AWARENESS* DISCIPLINE*SAFETY in handling firearms
A Systems Approach to Learning Development
Training for any activity should begin with a formal task analysis. The first step in a task analysis is to establish a definition of expertise or the requisite level of performance.
Once this phase is completed, the learning objectives are developed, followed by sequencing of learning modules in an order so that foundational knowledge are followed by the student.
