AGI American Gunsmithing Institute In Agua Dulce, CA Has Over Two Decades Of Experience

Two decades ago, American Gunsmithing Institute (AGI) Founder and President Gene Kelly saw an increased demand for gunsmiths in the firearms industry in Agua Dulce, CA and realized  that there was a growing need to train new gunsmiths on a faster and more efficient basis.

With over 330 million firearms in this country, at any given time 10 to 20 percent of those are in some need of cleaning, repair or customizing. After WWII, a large crop of new gunsmiths appeared, but now they are retiring or passing away and demand for new,Gene Kelley, Founder AGI young blood in the gunsmith world in Agua Dulce, CA is growing. 

Gunsmithing Programs Offered Across the Country

Prior to AGI’s founding, gunsmithing programs were only offered in Agua Dulce, CA at a couple of campus based schools and most people could not afford to attend them so the number of gunsmiths continued to decline.

This gave Kelly the idea to found AGI. Using Master Gunsmith Bob Dunlap’s teaching methodology, combined with the video techniques developed by AGI, Kelly was able to create a unique teaching method that allowed students to learn at home in Agua Dulce, CA at their own pace. And thus, AGI was born. Since its inception in 1993, AGI has gone on to use this same method to teach people welding, machining, locksmithing and other trade skills.

Agua Dulce, CA,  The Acton-Agua Dulce Chamber of commerce was incorporated in 1954 and merged with Agua Dulce in 2015. The chamber worked as the primary civic group until the formation of the Acton and Agua Dulce Town Councils.

They are located just off of that Antelope Valley Freeway (Highway 14) between Palmdale, and Canyon Country, roughly 20 miles Northeast of the San Fernando Valley and 47 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.

The buyer of a firearm must fill out an application to purchase a particular gun. The firearms dealer sends the application to the California Department of Justice (DOJ), which performs a background check on the buyer. The approved application is valid for 30 days. There is a 10 day waiting period for the delivery of any firearm.

Agua Dulce, CA, Vasquez Rocks has been long used as a popular filming location by the Hollywood movie industry, most notably The Flintstones movie, Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles, and the Star Trek episode "Arena." The 1971 movie Duel filmed extensively in the area, as was the western film More Dead Than Alive. Other films shot in the area are Rat Race, 127 Hours, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey and The Immaculate Conception of Little Dizzle.

The History channel shoots the popular reality TV show "Top Shot" in the hills and canyons on the north side of the valley. The Agua Dulce area has also played host to music video shoots, including those for the Bloodhound Gang's "Your Only Friends Are Make-Believe" and Weird Al Yankovic's "I Love Rocky Road", and various Nike commercials.

Vasquez Rocks got its name from the famous bandit Tiburcio Vásquez who used them as a hideout.

Agua Dulce also has a general aviation airport known as Agua Dulce Airpark. The Airpark and surrounding area was the location for the ABC game show 101 Ways to Leave a Gameshow which premiered on June 21, 2011.
