While there were various gunsmiths and gun enthusiasts in Chino Hills, CA and throughout the U.S., they were missing an outlet to come together, share ideas, stories and most importantly, have some fun together! So AGI created The Gun Club of America (GCA). It stands upon four pillars: education, fun, savings and fellowship.

AGI American Gunsmithing Institute In Chino Hills, CA Has Over Two Decades Of Experience

Two decades ago, American Gunsmithing Institute (AGI) Founder and President Gene Kelly saw an increased demand for gunsmiths in the firearms industry in Chino Hills, CA and realized  that there was a growing need to train new gunsmiths on a faster and more efficient basis.

Gun Club Of America,  LogoKelly made it a goal to preserve the art of gunsmithing for future generations and to provide a way for gun enthusiasts in Chino Hills, CA to pursue their hobbies from the comfort of their own homes through AGI’s course load. 

With over 330 million firearms in this country, at any given time 10 to 20 percent of those are in some need of cleaning, repair or customizing. After WWII, a large crop of new gunsmiths appeared, but now they are retiring or passing away and demand for new,Gene Kelley, Founder AGI young blood in the gunsmith world in Chino Hills, CA is growing. 

Gunsmithing Programs Offered Across the Country

Prior to AGI’s founding, gunsmithing programs were only offered in Chino Hills, CA at a couple of campus based schools and most people could not afford to attend them so the number of gunsmiths continued to decline.

This gave Kelly the idea to found AGI. Using Master Gunsmith Bob Dunlap’s teaching methodology, combined with the video techniques developed by AGI, Kelly was able to create a unique teaching method that allowed students to learn at home in Chino Hills, CA at their own pace. And thus, AGI was born. Since its inception in 1993, AGI has gone on to use this same method to teach people welding, machining, locksmithing and other trade skills.

Chino Hills’ reputation is known in the national arena as well, the City of Chino Hills has been ranked #34 on Money magazine’s 2012 list of the “100 Best Places to Live.” According to the CNN/Money website, the list includes “the top 100 terrific cities that offer what American families care about most - strong job opportunities, great schools, low crime, quality health care, plenty to do, and a true sense of community.” Cities with a population between 50,000 and 300,000 were considered. Chino Hills appeared on the list before -- in 2005 with a ranking of #68.

America’s Promise Alliance announced that Chino Hills was named as one of the “100 Best Communities for Young People” for 2012. Thanks to great partnerships and the hard work of many agencies and individuals who make a difference in the lives of young people, this is the second year Chino Hills made the list. The national award recognized our community for providing outstanding and innovative services and programs that make Chino Hills an outstanding place for youth to live, learn and grow.

Chino Hills, CA, Due to its topography of rolling hills, Chino Hills was primarily rural prior to the mid-1970s; most land was utilized for equestrian purposes and for dairies, except for the multi-use purposes of the State of California, promoting jobs for your community through day labor from the Chino Institute for Men on Central Avenue. Rapid and extensive housing developments followed throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, only slowing down in recent years. Most neighborhoods are arranged in a village-type format with strategically placed shopping centers and parks designed to be within walking distance of nearby homes.

Chino Hills is home to the Vellano Country Club, a private golf course and housing development designed by golf champion Greg Norman, his first project in the Greater Los Angeles area. With home prices expected to exceed $2 million, Vellano was touted (as of 2005) as the most expensive housing development in the Inland Empire.

Chino Hills also includes the developed golf course development neighborhood of Los Serranos. Other large master-planned subdivisions without amenities include Woodview/Village Crossing, Gordon Ranch, LaBand Village, Butterfield Ranch, Rolling Ridge, Fairfield Ranch, and Payne Ranch.

Chino Hills is also the location of The Shoppes at Chino Hills. The mall features over 65 upscale stores and restaurants. The Shoppes is designed to be "Main Street Chino Hills" featuring the Chino Hills Government Center and Library in addition to retail outlets
