AGI American Gunsmithing Institute In Diamond Springs, CA Has Over Two Decades Of Experience

Two decades ago, American Gunsmithing Institute (AGI) Founder and President Gene Kelly saw an increased demand for gunsmiths in the firearms industry in Diamond Springs, CA and realized  that there was a growing need to train new gunsmiths on a faster and more efficient basis.

Gun Club Of America,  LogoKelly made it a goal to preserve the art of gunsmithing for future generations and to provide a way for gun enthusiasts in Diamond Springs, CA to pursue their hobbies from the comfort of their own homes through AGI’s course load. 

With over 330 million firearms in this country, at any given time 10 to 20 percent of those are in some need of cleaning, repair or customizing. After WWII, a large crop of new gunsmiths appeared, but now they are retiring or passing away and demand for new,Gene Kelley, Founder AGI young blood in the gunsmith world in Diamond Springs, CA is growing. 

Gunsmithing Programs Offered Across the Country

Prior to AGI’s founding, gunsmithing programs were only offered in Diamond Springs, CA at a couple of campus based schools and most people could not afford to attend them so the number of gunsmiths continued to decline.

This gave Kelly the idea to found AGI. Using Master Gunsmith Bob Dunlap’s teaching methodology, combined with the video techniques developed by AGI, Kelly was able to create a unique teaching method that allowed students to learn at home in Diamond Springs, CA at their own pace. And thus, AGI was born. Since its inception in 1993, AGI has gone on to use this same method to teach people welding, machining, locksmithing and other trade skills.

Diamond Springs, CA , Diamond Springs (formerly, Diamond Spring and Diamond) is a census-designated place (CDP) in El Dorado County, California, United States. It is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 11,037 at the 2010 census, up from 4,888 at the 2000 census. The town is registered as California Historical Landmark #487. It lies at an elevation of 1791 feet (546 m).

This town, settled in 1848, derived its name from its crystal clear springs. Among the most gold-rich locations in the region, the area produced a 25-pound nugget, one of the largest ever found in El Dorado County. Its most thriving period was in 1851 and, through its lumber, lime production, and agriculture, Diamond Springs has retained some of its early importance.

A post office was established at Diamond Spring in 1853; the name was changed to Diamond Springs in 1950.

The 2010 United States Census[6] reported that Diamond Springs had a population of 11,037. The population density was 660.4 people per square mile (255.0/km²). The racial makeup of Diamond Springs was 9,743 (88.3%) White, 39 (0.4%) African American, 176 (1.6%) Native American, 110 (1.0%) Asian, 6 (0.1%) Pacific Islander, 518 (4.7%) from other races, and 445 (4.0%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1,377 persons (12.5%).

The Census reported that 10,904 people (98.8% of the population) lived in households, 23 (0.2%) lived in non-institutionalized group quarters, and 110 (1.0%) were institutionalized.

Design and safety standards are intended to ensure the structural integrity of the firearm and to prevent the firearm from misfiring or malfunctioning. Examples of design standards include drop testing, firing testing, and melting point testing, which must be conducted by a designated state agency or independent lab before a handgun may be manufactured and/or sold in the state.
