During its twenty year tenure, AGI realized that something was missing. While there were various gunsmiths and gun enthusiasts in Hollywood, CA and throughout the U.S., they were missing an outlet to come together, share ideas, stories and most importantly, have some fun together! So AGI created The Gun Club of America (GCA). It stands upon four pillars: education, fun, savings and fellowship.

AGI American Gunsmithing Institute In Hollywood, CA Has Over Two Decades Of Experience

Two decades ago, American Gunsmithing Institute (AGI) Founder and President Gene Kelly saw an increased demand for gunsmiths in the firearms industry in Hollywood, CA and realized  that there was a growing need to train new gunsmiths on a faster and more efficient basis.

Gun Club Of America,  LogoKelly made it a goal to preserve the art of gunsmithing for future generations and to provide a way for gun enthusiasts in Hollywood, CA to pursue their hobbies from the comfort of their own homes through AGI’s course load. 

With over 330 million firearms in this country, at any given time 10 to 20 percent of those are in some need of cleaning, repair or customizing. After WWII, a large crop of new gunsmiths appeared, but now they are retiring or passing away and demand for new,Gene Kelley, Founder AGI young blood in the gunsmith world in Hollywood, CA is growing. 

Gunsmithing Programs Offered Across the Country

Prior to AGI’s founding, gunsmithing programs were only offered in Hollywood, CA at a couple of campus based schools and most people could not afford to attend them so the number of gunsmiths continued to decline.

This gave Kelly the idea to found AGI. Using Master Gunsmith Bob Dunlap’s teaching methodology, combined with the video techniques developed by AGI, Kelly was able to create a unique teaching method that allowed students to learn at home in Hollywood, CA at their own pace. And thus, AGI was born. Since its inception in 1993, AGI has gone on to use this same method to teach people welding, machining, locksmithing and other trade skills.

Hollywood, CA, Hollywood Sights to see!, Chinese Theatre - hosts many film premieres. One of its attractions is the famous cement forecourt containing hand and footprints of numerous screen legends, including John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland and Jack Nicholson, to name a few. Since its opening in May 1927, millions of movie patrons and visitors to Hollywood have been drawn to the theatre.

Dolby Theatre - is the crown jewel of the Hollywood & Highland Center retail, dining and entertainment complex located in the heart of Hollywood. The 3,400 seat theatre opened in November 2001 and soon thereafter became known to more than one billion people across the globe as the first permanent home of the Academy Awards. 

Egyptian Theatre - offers behind-the-scenes look at making movies called "Forever Hollywood."

El Capitan Theatre - In 1989, The Walt Disney Company joined forces with Pacific Theatres to begin a two-year archeological dig, which led to a museum-quality restoration of the legendary El Capitan Theatre which now hosts live stage shows, world premieres, and other special events that have helped restore showmanship to Hollywood Boulevard.

Golden Age Theater - Readings and theatrical performances of L. Ron Hubbard's fiction stories from a variety of genres, including science fiction, fantasy, western, mystery, thriller, horror, romance and others. The theater is located near Madame Tussaud's, across the street from the Roosevelt Hotel. You can view videos of prior performances at the website.

Guided Tours on Hollywood Boulevard - a list of guided bus tour operators that are located on or near Hollywood Boulevard. The list includes company names, addresses, phone numbers and actual pictures of the vans.

Guinness Book of Records Museum - This curio museum is based on the book of the same name. At Ripley's website you can get a combination admission pass that lets you in to Ripley's, Guinness and the Hollywood Wax Museum (across the street).

Hollywood Business Improvement District - The Hollywood Entertainment District stretches along the world-famous Walk of Fame down 18-blocks of historic Hollywood Boulevard, from the La Brea Gateway to the corner of Hollywood & Vine and beyond. Many of Hollywood's most famous landmarks are located in this epicenter of the entertainment capital of the world and birthplace of the movie industry.

Hollywood, CA, By 1912, major motion-picture companies had set up production near or in Los Angeles. In the early 1900s, most motion picture patents were held by Thomas Edison's Motion Picture Patents Company in New Jersey, and filmmakers were often sued to stop their productions.

To escape this, filmmakers began moving out west, where Edison's patents could not be enforced. Also, the weather was ideal and there was quick access to various settings. Los Angeles became the capital of the film industry.

Hollywood movie studios, 1922 Director D. W. Griffith was the first to make a motion picture in Hollywood. His 17-minute short film In Old California (1910) was filmed for the Biograph Company. Although Hollywood banned movie theaters—of which it had none—before annexation that year, Los Angeles had no such restriction.

The first film by a Hollywood studio, Nestor Motion Picture Company, was shot on October 26, 1911. The Whitley home was used as its set, and the unnamed movie was filmed in the middle of their groves at the corner of Whitley Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard.

The first studio in Hollywood, the Nestor Company, was established by the New Jersey–based Centaur Company in a roadhouse at 6121 Sunset Boulevard (the corner of Gower), in October 1911.

Four major film companies – Paramount, Warner Bros., RKO, and Columbia – had studios in Hollywood, as did several minor companies and rental studios. In the 1920s, Hollywood was the fifth-largest industry in the nation.

Hollywood became known as Tinseltown because of the glittering image of the movie industry. Hollywood has since become a major center for film study in the United States.
