So AGI created The Gun Club of America (GCA). It stands upon four pillars: education, fun, savings and fellowship.
AGI Teaches Basic and Advanced Firearms Maintenance, Customizing, and Gunsmithing Repair for hobbyist and Professional. Study at home and get Certified as a Gunsmith.
AGI American Gunsmithing Institute In Saugus, CA Has Over Two Decades Of Experience
Two decades ago, American Gunsmithing Institute (AGI) Founder and President Gene Kelly saw an increased demand for gunsmiths in the firearms industry in Saugus, CA and realized that there was a growing need to train new gunsmiths on a faster and more efficient basis.
Kelly made it a goal to preserve the art of gunsmithing for future generations and to provide a way for gun enthusiasts in Saugus, CA to pursue their hobbies from the comfort of their own homes through AGI’s course load.
With over 330 million firearms in this country, at any given time 10 to 20 percent of those are in some need of cleaning, repair or customizing. After WWII, a large crop of new gunsmiths appeared, but now they are retiring or passing away and demand for new, young blood in the gunsmith world in Saugus, CA is growing.
Gunsmithing Programs Offered Across the Country
Prior to AGI’s founding, gunsmithing programs were only offered in Saugus, CA at a couple of campus based schools and most people could not afford to attend them so the number of gunsmiths continued to decline.
This gave Kelly the idea to found AGI. Using Master Gunsmith Bob Dunlap’s teaching methodology, combined with the video techniques developed by AGI, Kelly was able to create a unique teaching method that allowed students to learn at home in Saugus, CA at their own pace. And thus, AGI was born. Since its inception in 1993, AGI has gone on to use this same method to teach people welding, machining, locksmithing and other trade skills.

Saugus, CA, 30 years ago, the City of Santa Clarita became the largest area ever to incorporate. In 1987, our City was 39 square miles and included the communities of Saugus, Newhall, Valencia and Canyon Country. Since then, more than 30 neighborhoods have annexed to the City, making Santa Clarita over 60 square miles and the third largest City in Los Angeles County.
Over the last three decades, cityhood has resulted in millions of dollars remaining in our community. These funds have enabled the City to provide new facilities, programs and services our residents want. Some of these include: 34 parks, 85 miles of off street trails, nearly 9,000 acres of preserved open space, three Metrolink Stations, three libraries, two community centers, anti-drug programs for youth, hundreds of sports and recreation programs, the Aquatic Center, Skatepark, traffic and road improvements, preventing a new landfill and a new aggregate mining project, just to name a few achievements over the last 30 years.
Santa Clarita is home to a flourishing arts scene featuring public art pieces and youth arts education programs. The City administers an arts grants program and provides information and assistance to artists and cultural organizations through the New Heights: Artist Development Workshop.
There are four, live theaters in Santa Clarita which regularly educate, entertain and enrich our community through a diverse blend of professional, educational and community programming. From popular musicians and classic plays to art galleries and historic tours, you will find it all in Santa Clarita.
There are more guns and gun owners in the U.S. than ever. During the last decade, gun control has been significantly reduced. The federal waiting period on handguns ended in 1998, in favor of the NRA-supported national instant check. Congress refused to renew the federal assault weapon and large magazine ban, allowing it to expire in 2004.
Congress and 33 states have prohibited frivolous lawsuits against the firearms industry. Forty-two states have Right-to-Carry, and 48 states prohibit cities from imposing gun laws more restrictive than state law, California is THE Exception

Saugus, along with Canyon Country, Valencia and Newhall are all parts of the City of Santa Clarita. The City of Santa Clarita hired LA County police and fire to provide services. Cops are like flies at times. (good thing) Saugus does have a traffic problem at rush hour mostly down Bouquet Cyn Road and on out to the freeways.
It, as part of the city is in one of the safest cities in S. Ca. Crime is low and schools are good. Parts of Saugus are just extentions of Valencia as far as housing density.
There's very good single family homes in some areas of Saugus, with prices less than Valencia and there's other areas that have more condos and therefore more people that come and go. Going out the back side of Saugus gets you into rural areas. Saugus has less shopping and is more of a bedroom community.
California is a stand-alone where you can't carry an unconcealed and unloaded gun and you can't get a permit to carry one concealed," the state is out of step with at least 40 others that issue concealed-carry permits to any applicant with a clean slate.
