Brisbane, CA ,Despite its small size, arts & culture in Brisbane has become one of the City's distinguishing marks, thanks in large part to the support from the City Council to co-sponsor many of the special events and programs put on by our artist community.

For instance, the Mayor's Art Achievement Award is presented each Spring at a Council meeting and the Arts Advocate Award is presented every February before Intermission at the annual Artist Evening of Sharing, which itself has become a widely-celebrated event with artists of all disciplines coming together for an evening of enchantment as they showcase their art to the Community.

Also, every few months there is a new art installation at City Hall in the main conference room, with a free Wednesday evening reception from 6:00pm - 8:00pm that is open to the public.

The City is proud to also co-sponsor Brisbane Dance Workshop, Live at Mission Blue, and the SF Shakespeare Event, hosted by the Brisbane Women's Club each Fall. And of course, if you prefer the outdoors and live music, then look no further than the annual Concerts in the Park and the Day in the Park/Derby Races, which take place in the late summer months and on the first Saturday in October, respectively.

The Annual Mayor's Art Achievement Award for Recognition in the Arts is awarded each Spring at a City Council Meeting. Artists who reside in the City of Brisbane and who have achieved the required recognition are invited to apply. An artist may also self nominate for this award. The purpose of the program is to first honor Brisbane residents who have achieved recognition through the exhibition, performance, or publication of their works of art. It also allows the community to understand the rich diversity and depth of talent that surrounds us.

Visual Artists are required to have been included in five exhibitions. Performing Artists must have performed in five different venues or productions. Literary Artists are required to have five publications of their short literary work published in: reviews, journals, magazines, newspapers or have had a play or screenplay produced or published a novel or book of poetry.

Brisbane, CA, Brisbane is a small city located in California in the northern part of San Mateo County on the lower slopes of San Bruno Mountain. It is located on the southern border of San Francisco, on the northeastern edge of South San Francisco, next to the San Francisco Bay and near the San Francisco International Airport. The population was 4,282 as of the 2010 census.

Brisbane is called "The City of Stars" because of a holiday tradition established over 65 years ago. At the start of the Christmas/Hanukkah season, many residents and business owners place large, illuminated stars, some as big as 10 feet (3.0 m) or more in diameter, on the downhill sides of homes and offices throughout Brisbane. Many of the stars are kept up all year.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 20.1 square miles (52 km2), of which 3.1 square miles (8.0 km2) is land and 17.0 square miles (44 km2) (84.58%) is water, the latter the Brisbane Lagoon. A remnant of San Francisco Bay, the Lagoon was formed by the construction of the U. S. Highway 101 causeway, and became diminished as most of its north and central portions were filled with landfill. Brisbane sits at the southeast corner of the Guadalupe Valley.

Guadalupe Valley Creek is a small creek which flows east through Brisbane along the north flank of San Bruno Mountain and enters the Brisbane Lagoon after passing under the Tunnel Avenue bridge.
