Crockett, CA, Crockett and Port Costa Community Demographics, The unincorporated towns of Crockett and Port Costa, separated by the grassy hills of the East Bay Regional Park District, are located in the northwest corner of Contra Costa County and are bound together by their location along the Carquinez Strait and their history during the late 19th century and turn of the 20th century when wheat, and later sugar production, dominated the area. To this day the C&H Sugar Company continues to refine cane sugar in Crockett.

Crockett was first laid out as a town in 1881 along the south shore of the Carquinez Strait. The town of Valona was laid out in 1883 just to the west of Crockett, and the two towns eventually merged into the Crockett of today. Port Costa was also founded in the late 1800's and became the primary point of shipment for wheat in the San Francisco Bay area.
The Crockett Swimming Pool, built in 1966, has been serving the communities of Crockett and Port Costa for almost 50 years. Completely renovated in 2011, our beautiful swimming pool facility provides modern pool plumbing, filters, pumps and lighting that meet all of the latest state requirements. Our swimming pool is ADA compliant.
Our facility features two poolside patio areas with umbrella covered tables, a lush green lawn area for sitting and a raised sun deck for enjoying the warm summer sunshine. We also have a 1' wading pool for the little ones.

Crockett Hills Regional Park lies south of Crockett. The 1,939 acre park ranges in elevation from 150–800 feet, offering views of San Pablo Bay, the Delta, Mount Tamalpais, and Mount Diablo. Trails include a 4.5-mile segment of the Bay Area Ridge Trail. Crockett Hills is an excellent mountain biking park.
Carquinez Strait Regional Shoreline comprises 1,415 acres of bluffs and shoreline along Carquinez Scenic Drive between the town of Crockett and the hillsides overlooking Martinez.
The topography of Crockett Ranch Regional Park and the adjoining Carquinez Regional Shoreline consists of open, rolling grasslands, wooded ravines, eucalyptus-shaded meadows, and river shoreline. Multi-purpose trails provide access to canyon views and ridgetop vistas.
In 1906, an agricultural cooperative of Hawaiian sugar cane growers built a sugar factory in Crockett, eventually turning it into a company town for the California and Hawaiian Sugar Company, (better known as C&H). The cane was grown in Hawaii and delivered by ship to Crockett, where the C&H refinery turned it into a variety of finished products.
C & H soon became a dominant force in Crockett, which has been called a "company town." By the 1920s, the company employed about 95 percent of the residents. Employment peaked at 2,500 just before WWII broke out. C & H helped its employees obtain land and bank loans, so that they could build houses. Company architects even worked on designing the houses. The company even funded many school and civic programs.
