During the earlier times, the location of the current city sits a limestone ridge. However, in the 1900s, it was leveled and the area was converted into farmland. The Long Slough was then created, a slow moving body of water, which originated in the Everglades. Later on, progress started to form Florida City, most part of the slough was filled to create more spaces for infrastructures and roads. Now, the skyline of Florida City is filled with buildings and other structures.
