Florida City, FL, where the sun shines all year long, is considered as one of the top vacation destinations in the United States. Considered as the metropolitan area of South Florida, its population escalated from a mere thousand to millions in just a few years. In 2007, the population of the city was 5,413,212. But if you will check the records of the US Census Bureau, in 2000 there were only 7,843 residents and in 2004 it increased to 8,363. The city has a colorful culture brought about by the mixture of Cuban and Haitian culture.

During the earlier times, the location of the current city sits a limestone ridge. However, in the 1900s, it was leveled and the area was converted into farmland. The Long Slough was then created, a slow moving body of water, which originated in the Everglades. Later on, progress started to form Florida City, most part of the slough was filled to create more spaces for infrastructures and roads. Now, the skyline of Florida City is filled with buildings and other structures.

Florida City, FL, Florida City is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States and is the southernmost municipality in the South Florida metropolitan area. Florida City is primarily a Miami suburb and a major agricultural area.

The city lies to the south and west of, and is contiguous with, Homestead. Both cities suffered catastrophic damage in August 1992, when Hurricane Andrew struck South Florida.

The city originated as a land promotion named Detroit. There were no buildings in the area when the first thirty families arrived in 1910, and they had to stay in Homestead until their houses could be built. The name was changed to Florida City when the town incorporated in 1914. It has a small historic area, but much of the city is hotels and other tourist facilities.
