Homer Glen, IL, Homer Glen is a home-rule municipality governed by a Village President, commonly called Mayor, and by a Board of Trustees, all of whom are elected at large to overlapping 4-year terms. The Village Manager position was created by ordinance. The Village Manager makes recommendations to the Village Board on measures deemed appropriate, prepares and proposes the annual budget, and keeps the Village fully informed on the Village's financial condition.

In May 2002 the Village of Homer Glen was 1 of 16 communities in Illinois to be awarded the Green Communities Demonstration Grant. The Green Communities Demonstration Grant Steering Committee was formed in Homer Glen and soon began Homer Glen's Green Vision Program. The 2-year grant process emphasized and relied heavily on input from the stakeholders of the Homer Glen community. In 2005, the Homer Glen Board of Trustees formally adopted the Green Vision Statement and Goals for the Village of Homer Glen.

Homer Glen, IL, Homer Glen has many parks and athletic clubs, including the Homer Athletic Club, Homer Stallions Football and Lacrosse, Homer Heat Baseball, Illinois Crush Baseball, Lockport Homer Swim Club, and Homer Hawks soccer. The Village finished construction of its first trail system, the Homer Glen Heroes Trail, in late 2011.

The trail is dedicated to local heroes and individuals that have made a positive impact on the community. The first event to take place on the Trail was the Mike Hike 5k, which honored local resident PFC Michael C. Olivieri, who lost his life while serving in Iraq in June 2011.
