Las Vegas, NM - What would you do if a mentally unstable person threatened you or your family? Authorities say a man walked into a store in New Mexico and then fatally shot himself in the head. Las Vegas NM police investigators are trying to piece together the events surrounding the apparent suicide.

Police say the man walked into the Big R store, asked to see a handgun and then loaded it with his own bullets. It is reported that store personnel tried to take it the gun from him, but the man got control of it and shot himself.

 

Las Vegas, NM - City gun ban struck down, in City of Las Vegas v. Moberg, the court of appeals held that a local ordinance banning the carrying of all firearms, concealed or unconcealed, violated article II, § 6.4 In Moberg, the court distinguished between laws that merely regulate the carrying of firearms, and laws that completely prohibit the carrying of firearms.

The court stated that a law prohibiting the carrying of concealed firearms is a permissible regulation of article II, § 6. The ordinance at issue, however, prohibited the carrying of all firearms and was therefore a violation.
