LOWELL, Mass. —Police in Lowell say a man who demanded money for shoveling the driveway of an elderly couple who hadn't asked him to do so was chased away when Police say the man knocked on the door of the woman and her 81-year-old husband Tuesday and forcefully asked for payment for shoveling.
They told him to leave, so he banged on the door harder. Police advised that the woman came to the door again, this time holding a gun at her side. She never pointed it, just told the man to go away. She was licensed to carry the gun. Police found the man, talked to him and the couple, and didn't bring any charges.
LOWELL, Mass. -- City police Sgt. Mickey O'Keefe and Officer Carlos Ramirez will return to duty today after an internal police investigation found that they both were justified in shooting a 54-year-old Lowell man who came at them with a knife earlier this month.
O'Keefe, known for his role playing himself in the Oscar-winning Micky Ward biopic, The Fighter, and Ramirez were sent to 402 East Merrimack St., along with other officers Aug. 19 after a 911 call reported a domestic assault about 1 p.m. Immediately afterward, police said only that officers fired two shots that struck William Dolan, 54.
