Mokena, IL, The Mokena Book Club organized a library for Mokena in the late 1930’s and ran it until 1966. The Mokena Lions Club paid for the rent and heat for small quarters located on Front Street in downtown Mokena and staffed by volunteers. In 1966 the Woman’s Book Club formed a Friends-of-the-Library organization and, through a special referendum, the Library became a tax-supported library district and was officially named the MOKENA COMMUNITY PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT.
The Library then moved to a new location, the former Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at Union and Cross Streets in Mokena. This location was dedicated on April 23, 1967 and the owners of the Mokena Pharmacy (the Kurber family) donated shelves and racks.

Two commuter rail stations are located within Mokena; Hickory Creek and Front Street, providing service to downtown Chicago's LaSalle Street Station, connecting with components of the Chicago Transit Authority.
Mokena is also served by I-80, which runs along the northern border of the village. Through I-80, commuters have convenient access to I-355 (Veteran's Memorial Tollway) and to I-57. The main north-south thoroughfares are US Route 45 (LaGrange Rd) and Wolf Rd. The main east-west thoroughfares are 191st St, LaPorte Rd.
