Montgomery, IL, Montgomery is a growing community quietly nestled along both banks of the Fox River in Kane and Kendall counties in Illinois, just south of Aurora and about 40 miles west of Chicago. Montgomery was founded in 1835 and incorporated as a Village in 1858. Montgomery’s founder, Daniel Gray, selected the name in honor of his home in Montgomery County, New York. The stone grist mill built by Gray in 1853 has been beautifully restored and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

For many years, Montgomery maintained a fairly stable population, with 5,471 residents in 2000. A sharp increase in residential construction resulted in a population of 18,438 by 2010, an increase of 237 percent in 10 years. Despite this rapid growth, Montgomery has maintained its warm, small-town atmosphere and is a close-knit community where neighbors care about each other.

Montgomery, IL, For much of the twentieth century, the village grew slowly and steadily. Lyon Metal was founded in Montgomery in 1904, and participated in the war effort of World War II. The Aurora Caterpillar manufacturing plant located along the southern border of Montgomery has been producing wheel-loaders since 1959. Western Electric had its Montgomery Works plant along River street, which became Lucent Technologies and was closed in 1995. In 1962, this factory employed 1,500 people and made telephone parts.

In the beginning of the twenty-first century, Montgomery experienced rapid growth, along with many other communities in Kendall County. The 2010 Census documented a population of 18,438 for Montgomery representing a 237% increase over the last ten years making Montgomery one of the fastest growing communities in Illinois.
