Orange City , FL, The first inhabitants in the Orange City area were the Timucua Indians. By 1820, the original natives became extinct due to disease and war. The first permanent home in this section of Volusia County was the Thursby house, located on the east side of Blue Spring Run in the 1850s. In 1874, Dr. French and five friends purchased about 5,000 acres of internal improvement land and started the town that became Orange City, FL.

The Orange City Fire Department (OFD), established in 1890, is a combination department (volunteer and paid). The OFD consists of two fire stations, 67 and 68. Station 67 is located at 215 N. Holly Ave. Station 67 is also the main station with administration housed. Station 68 is located at the South end water plant across the street from the target. This is a secured facility and non accessible for the public. The OFD was recently awarded a class 2 ISO rating, first and only in Volusia County. The Orange City Fire Department is contracted to provide fire services to the city of Debary (Station 33). All engines and the Rescue are ALS supplied and staffed with paramedics.
