Armed robberies are on the rise, the suspect armed with a knife was out gunned by a clerk with a lead pipe. Police said the suspect confronted the owner of Saco Bay Variety with a knife, at about 7:55 p.m, and demanded money from the register.
The owner then got out a lead pipe he had under the counter and the suspect fled with the storeowner in pursuit.

Another armed robbery of a female store employee who as usual was unarmed and not able to defend herself. Shortly before 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Extra Mart store on Elm Street.
Police said a single male suspect entered the store, stated he was armed, told the clerk to give him cash and warned her not to call police.
The clerk placed an undisclosed amount of cash from a register into the robber’s backpack, and the robber subsequently fled.
