It has been pointed out that retired law enforcement officers can get a national concealed weapon permit, but the one-year permit requires they demonstrate they know how to use a weapon properly. But a general concealed weapon carrying permit in Pennsylvania is good for five years and doesn’t require the permit holder to have any gun education.!
Wilkes-Barre, PA The Wilkes-Barre Police Department buy back event was held in February 2013.The department says the two-day program resulted in 586 firearms that were turned in. The Federal Drug Forfeiture provided the funds to hold the event and alleviated the burden to taxpayers. The types of firearms included 9 sporting rifles, 152 semi-automatic handguns, 134 handguns and 291 hunting rifles.
Two stolen handguns were also recovered. The program, which is similar to other gun buyback programs nationwide, paid owners for the voluntary surrender of their firearms with out any questions asked. The township offered $200 for semi auto sporting rifles, up to $100 for semi-automatic handguns and up to $50 for handguns, other types of rifles and shotguns.
