Wilson, NC The nonprofit hunting and conservation group raffling a rifle to raise money for a Wilson County elementary school says critics are going off half-cocked. School officials indicated Lucama Elementary and its parent-teacher organization were holding the raffle, but the Delta Waterfowl Foundation says it’s in charge of the contest.

WILSON, N.C., A man was charged Thursday in the fatal shooting of a teenage girl in Wilson Wednesday night, police said. Police said they believe Robert Earl Keel Jr., 20, of Wilson, accidentally shot Shikita Shantae Archer, 14, in the face while she was visiting friends at a house. Police say he was playing with the gun when it went off. There was no Gun Safety Plan in the home. Education and planning would have prevented this tragedy.
